Kim Cruser-Scott

We sat down with Brighton designer Kim Cruser-Scott to learn more about her best-loved Meridian Collection as well as what inspires her.

AN INTERVIEW WITH KIM

How did you come to work at Brighton and what year did you start?

1996…I was on holiday and was looking to help Jerry Kohl, Brighton’s president, for the Christmas season. I helped out in the graphic design department with art direction and design. We seemed to work well together so I began designing product for Jerry and started two lines for him, sunglasses and watches.

In three words, the Meridian Collection is…

Classic, seasonless, and elevated.

What is the allure of the Meridian Collection?

Versatility of each piece. Literally could be worn with a classic white t-shirt or a little black dress.

Do you have a particular process that inspires you when you set out to design a new piece?

I surround myself with inspiration for the particular piece I want to design. Photos from my travels, a piece of aspirational design, and a story of my time abroad.

Who would you say is your personal style icon?

It changes so often…

What’s on your design desk right now?

My mother’s Elsa Petretti Bone cuff from the 70s, a sculptural instrument from my daughter’s middle school art class and a collected robin bird's nest from nature.

Your favorite quote:

I have two actually:
A family motto: “Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat.” which is Latin for “Fortune Favors the Bold.”
And my newest: “The beauty you see in anything is a reflection of the beauty in you.”
